The Last Mile is an inside look at what moves us, as runners and as people. Its creator, John Burkett, newly sober at thirty, took his first run one morning while walking his dog, and never stopped. Having never enjoyed any exercise before, he found in running something he craved despite the effort, and set out to understand why. Why This Film Matters: Running is often framed as competition, but this film reaches for something deeper, the spiritual, primal pull that keeps ordinary people lacing up. The Last Mile speaks to anyone who has used movement to rebuild a life, one mile at a time.
