Scotland in winter is an arena where mountaineers pit their skills against exacting climbs in ferocious conditions, and it is respected by climbers the world over. Distilled examines what makes the climbing here so potent, through the eyes of Andy Cave, who first tied in as a Scottish teenager and never stopped. It is a portrait of a lifelong journey shaped by cold rock, bad weather, and total commitment.

Why This Film Matters: Scottish winter climbing strips the sport back to its essentials, judgment, endurance, and nerve, in an environment that forgives nothing. Distilled is a meditation on why we willingly seek out hardship, and on the deep, complicated love that keeps climbers coming back to the harshest ground of all.
