In 2016, Czech filmmaker Jana Andert spent eight months on the front line of the battle for Mosul, living and fighting alongside Iraq's elite Golden Division. Her camera captures the war not as a news dispatch but from within: the boredom, the terror, the bonds between soldiers, and the human cost of liberating a city house by house.

Why This Film Matters: War reporting rarely comes this close, or from a woman embedded this deep. It is an unflinching, first-hand record of modern combat that puts the viewer inside one of the century's defining battles.
