The Negotiators
The Negotiators – How to Make Peace goes behind the headlines of modern conflict to follow the mediators who try to end wars with diplomacy and patience rather than force. Director Rosalind Bain profiles four figures at different stages of a peacemaking career: Jordi Raich, a neutral intermediary and former senior ICRC official facing his own final mission after a terminal diagnosis; Dorsa Nazemi, negotiating on the ground in South Sudan; Valentin Inzko, the Austrian diplomat implementing the Dayton accords in Bosnia and Herzegovina; and Dag Nylander, architect of Norway's approach to conflict resolution. Their work spans crises from Colombia to South Sudan.
Why This Film Matters: The Negotiators reframes peace not as a signing ceremony but as slow, exhausting, deeply human labour. By showing the craft, frustration and personal cost of mediation, it makes a quietly urgent case that the hardest conflicts are ended at the table, not the battlefield.
